Plans for shoot:
In this shoot I will be using the same location as my shoot 3 and will be trying to capture a darker side of the night sky . I will be doing this with the influence of Masahisa Fukase.
Research Influence:
Masahisa Fukase:
Masahisa Fukase (1934-2012) is renowned for his obsessive and intense photography through which he articulated his passionate and occasionally violent life. Fukase was born in the town of Hokkaido, Japan, in 1934, the son of a successful local studio photographer. The reason why i picked this photographer is because he gave me a lot of inspiration of my work as i like the darkness and the the harshness of the photos. I like the look of the ravens as the black and white effect creates negative space and an different tones. This could link to Ansel Adams zones system. One thing that i like about Fukase's work is that it presents an olden photo effect and some- like the top right- look as if they may have been taken on film.

My Best Images:
Images that need improving:
These photos need improving due to them not being in focus, being shaky and not having the right settings of exposure.
My idea for my shoot was to photograph a different night sky, with loads of clouds with a bright moon. I was inspired from my research of Masahisa Fukase who's photos give a sinister and dark atmosphere. This photographer also inspired me edit my best images by adapting the contrast and adding filters to show different tones in the patches in the clouds, like shown in her photos.
The images came out as I expected, however I wish I had taken a tripod to make the photos less shaky. I wanted my photos to show an eerie atmosphere through the sharp colours. I think my images have portrayed this in many ways. Due to this I decided to not edit my photos into black and white.
Best selected images...
My best images were selected because they were the ones that show my initial process for this shoot. This is because they show the different colour clouds blending together, and dark tones. I like this look at it shows contrast and different tones within one photo.AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
I used my Nikon D3500 camera to take these photos. I tried to adjust the camera setting, like shutter speed, aperture and ISO to make the photos look their best. However, I can’t remember what every photo was taken in.
The settings of my best images are:
The first photo:
Shutter speed= 1/2
Aperture=f/4.5
Zoom=70mm
Aperture=f/4.5
Zoom=70mm
the second:
Shutter speed= 1/80
Aperture=f/4.5
Zoom=85mm
Aperture=f/4.5
Zoom=85mm
Third photo:
Shutter speed= 1/15
Aperture=f/7.1
Zoom=85mm
Aperture=f/7.1
Zoom=85mm
The fourth:
Shutter speed= 1/125
Aperture=f/4.5
Aperture=f/4.5
Zoom=85mm
fifth:
Shutter speed= 1/125
Aperture=f/5.6
Aperture=f/5.6
Zoom=280mm
sixth:
Shutter speed= 0.3sec
Aperture=f/4.5
editing:Aperture=f/4.5
Zoom=70mm
For most of my edits I did the basic burning and dodging to create a dark atmosphere. However, I also experimented with my editing by added photo filters to make it a certain tone of colour. I also tried a technique of adding two photos on top of each other, making one at a lower opacity to have the two clouds mixed together and look as if they were moving. This can be seen in the screenshots below and the end result to the left on this paragraph. The second picture is an example of a photo filter, mixed with burning and dodging. the editing has made the sky look gradient and the clouds look fiercely strong. This presents the original message of a darker, powerful night sky, compared to my last shoot.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
The artist research was helpful as I liked the fact that Fukase uses also burning and dodging to edit their photos, which could help me when editing my photos as well. However, I didn't want to try changing the photos to black and white as I wanted them to look more realistic and to see the contrasts of the sky in a different way. I believe this idea was good as it presents the eerie atmosphere I wanted to portray.
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
I believe that I have produced a strong series of images inspired by my research of the sky and my research of Masahisa Fukase's work. I wanted my photos to look dark and mysterious and present connotations of a darkness coming. I feel my best images have presented this well.
